Students are encouraged to explore and use the following resources in their preparation for the TOEFL iBT.

Typing/Keyboarding  − キーボードのタイピング

Typing 101: Typing Lessons, Tests, and Games!

This website was created by Tokiwa staff specifically for helping TOEFL iBT students improve their typing ability. Different difficulty levels are available, from basic tutorials to advanced speed typing tests. Most of the games and tests are quite enjoyable, so give them a try!

Reading − リーディング

Adult Learning Activities

This site has both reading and listening practice for a variety of topics. Each passage is followed by vocabulary activities and quizzes. Many of the topics are not academic in nature, but are good practice nevertheless.

Gutenberg Project

This site contains legal downloads of hundreds of classic English literature titles. “Childrens’ ” novels originally intended for young readers provide lower-level reading practice for students.

Textbook Revolution

This site contains dozens of free academic textbooks and online courses with video lectures. All of the material is great practice for the academic topics on the TOEFL.

Listening − リスニング

Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab

This website has 100+ listening practice quizzes arranged by difficulty.

NPR.org

NPR is a public American news organization and radio program producer. Click on “Listen” on the top menu bar to listen to streaming audio.

BBC Radio

BBC is a British public service broadcaster. This website contains a variety of streaming audio broadcasts ranging from the news to popular culture. (British English)

BBC Learning English

This site was developed specifically for English language learners and contains excellent video and audio files on a variety of topics. Most listening passagess also contain vocabulary lists. (British English)

iPhone and iPad users should also look for academic listening material on iTunes and TOEFL or ESL-specific Apps and Podcasts.

Speaking/Pronunciation − スピーキング、発音

Rachael’s English

This website has clear video explanations to help students with all aspects of English pronunciation, from syllable production to sentence intonation. It also has imitation-style practice exercises. Updates regularly.

Audacity

Audacity is a free sound recording and editing program. Using it you can practice your pronunciation by recording your voice and comparing it to a native speaker’s.

Open Culture: Free Online Courses

Open Culture contains hundreds of links to listening and reading material on a variety of academic topics, similar to those on the TOEFL. Check it out!

TOEFL TV: The Official TOEFL Channel

This YouTube channel, created by ETS, has clear and informative videos about how to approach and prepare for the different TOEFL exams (including the iBT).

Dave’s ESL Café

Links on this page include quizzes, idioms, slang, “hint of the day,” and a help forum with a large community ESL learners and native speakers.
